Hyundai Tucson 2013 Performance & Safety

Performance and safety.

In the Tucson, there’s no reason not to have both.

The 2013 Tucson’s performance and efficiency are no less revolutionary than its design. The Tucson comes equipped with either a 2.0L (165 hp) or 2.4L (176 hp) 4-cylinder engine, both maximizing power while providing good fuel efficiency. What’s more, the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission (standard on L) or an optional 6-speed automatic with Shiftronic®.

As you’d expect of a vehicle designed in Europe, Tucson’s suspension was tuned for performance. Motor-driven power steering provides responsive handling, while the independent suspension offers an agile yet firm ride.

To improve safety, performance and control, Tucson sports an innovative Hillstart Assist Control – to minimize backroll on steep ascents – and Downhill Brake Control – to maintain vehicle control and speed on steep descents.

Also standard are an Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake force Distribution and Brake Assist plus Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control System – technologies that help you control the vehicle in adverse conditions.

And, just in case, every Tucson is equipped with 6 airbags, including dual front airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and 2 side-curtain airbags which are equipped with rollover sensors to ensure they remain inflated throughout a roll.

THE TRACTION OF ALL-WHEEL DRIVE

The optional advanced electronic on-demand AWD system with driver-selectable lock delivers a 50/50 torque split to the front and rear wheels for maximum traction in off-road and slippery situations.

Safety Highlights

AIRBAG PROTECTION ALL AROUND.

Every Tucson is equipped with 6 airbags, including dual front airbags, dual front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and 2 side-curtain airbags for front and outboard rear passengers which are equipped with rollover sensors to ensure they remain inflated throughout a roll.

The Supplemental Restraint (Airbag) System (SRS) is designed to work with the 3-point seatbelt system. The SRS deploys in certain frontal and/or side-impact conditions where significant injury is likely. The SRS is not a substitute for seatbelts, which must still be worn at all times. Children under the age of 13 should be securely restrained in the rear seat. NEVER place a child-seat in the front seat of a Hyundai vehicle.

Standard Anti-lock Braking System with EBD

An Anti-lock Braking System helps to maintain vehicle steering control while braking and comes standard on all models. During abrupt and hard braking, the brakes are automatically applied and released several times per second to help prevent tires from slipping due to wheel locking. Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) can apply more or less braking pressure to each wheel in order to maximize stopping power while maintaining vehicular control.

Standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System (TCS)

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System (TCS) is designed to sense oversteer and understeer conditions. During unexpected and dangerous situations, it adjusts the braking power of each wheel utilizing the Traction Control System to help restore the driver’s course.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are meant to enhance conscientious driving habits and are not a substitute for safe driving practices.

Active Head Restraints

Standard on the Tucson are front active head restraints. In the event of a rear-end collision, the restraints move forward before your head moves back, providing added protection against whiplash. As well, adjustable head restraints and 3-point seatbelts are standard for each seating position.
